In a roar and blur of cascading colors like the Flying Circus drafting off of their Baron, the drivers in Rick Rush’s Finishing Strong are the best of the best on the racetrack. Dale Earnhardt Jr. (#8), Jeff Gordon (#24), and Jimmie Johnson (#48) are the All-Stars of NASCAR racing – and as of 2008, they’re on the same team...
Three decades into a career of illustrating the sporting life in America, Rick Rush continues to capture America's heartbeat on canvas. He truly is America's Sports Artist. In his timeless media, he captures our athletes in their most triumphant hour - our most triumphant hour. He masterfully cements memories into images so that we may forever cherish those triumphs, and share them with others.
It seems fitting that America's Sports Artist has dedicated his first work of 2008 to a new era in NASCAR racing. No longer viewed as just a culture of the southern states, stockcar racing has flourished into the biggest sport in the nation. It fits the bill of "America's Sport." There are heroes, villains, photo-finishes, real-life tragedies, and plenty of excitement can be found in the bumper-to-bumper traffic at excesses of two-hundred miles per hour.
Its official - Hendrick Racing is the undisputed full-throttle dynasty.
At the forefront we see two-time and reigning Sprint Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson and his #48 LOWE'S Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS. They say the advertising rates on the bumper space of Jimmie Johnson's #48 is three times more expensive than the hood of anyone else's car - after all, that's all most folks have seen of him in the past two years. Johnson is followed by Hendrick Racing co-owner Jeff Gordon and his #24 DUPONT Chevrolet. Gordon is a four-time Sprint Cup Champion. Closing in on the Hendrick partners is Dale Earndhart Jr. in his final lap with the #8 BUDWEISER Chevrolet. Dale Earnhardt Jr. has won the NASCAR "Most Popular Driver" award every single year since 2003.
Rick Rush's Finishing Strong serves not only to document leaders of today's track, but also to give us a glimpse into the new era in NASCAR... it becomes clear, the "Car Of Tomorrow" may look different, but it will undoubtedly have it's same masters.
