Product Details

"Return to Power"  Signed and Numbered *Limited Edition Original Serigraph

Painted Area: 22" x 33"

"Limited Edition" refers to the fact that there is only a certain amount, or "limited" number of serigraphs printed of a specific piece of artwork.  After the edition is printed, all of the original artwork and screens used to make the print are destroyed or effaced.  This ensures that no additional prints of this image will be made in the future.  This is the opposite of an "Open Edition," where public demand determines the number of pieces included in an edition.

The limited life of the stencil prevents unlimited editions.  Additionally, variables in the process of hand-pulling serigraphs mean that each individual serigraph is slightly different from each other serigraph in the edition.  Minor deviations in color registration, paint distribution, and variations yield individual pieces that are truly "one-of-a-kind" or "original."

In January of 2007, the University of Alabama hired Nick Saban to be the next head coach for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Coach Saban spoke of returning the Crimson Tide to power to once again compete on the national level as a process of creating an identity. In Nick Saban’s second year as head coach, the Crimson Tide bounded from a Pre-Season #24 to the Nation’s #1 team for five consecutive weeks. The “Process” was ahead of schedule, and the SEC West was won in only ten weeks.

After six consecutive losses to the Auburn Tigers, and having never won an Iron Bowl on the home field at Tuscaloosa, the Alabama Crimson Tide overwhelmingly defeated Auburn 36-0 at Bryant-Denny Stadium. It was the largest margin of victory in an Iron Bowl since 1962.

“The 2008 Iron Bowl was a clinic on smash mouth football and dominating defense, and for all that the game meant for Alabama football, I felt inspired to capture the victory on canvas.” - Rick Rush

Beyond the game itself, beyond capping off an undefeated regular season, the Iron Bowl indicated a changing of the guard in the state of Alabama, and a preview of things to come for the Southeastern Conference and the Nation as a whole. As the cover of Sports Illustrated read after Week One, ALABAMA SENDS AN EARLY WARNING – the Alabama Crimson Tide was making a Return To Power.
