Product Details

"The Glory Years"

Signed and Numbered *Limited Edition Original Serigraph

Painted Area: 25" x 19"

Numerical Edition Size: 135

"Limited Edition" refers to the fact that there is only a certain amount, or "limited" number of serigraphs printed of a specific piece of artwork.  After the edition is printed, all of the original artwork and screens used to make the print are destroyed or effaced.  This ensures that no additional prints of this image will be made in the future.  This is the opposite of an "Open Edition," where public demand determines the number of pieces included in an edition.

The limited life of the stencil prevents unlimited editions.  Additionally, variables in the process of hand-pulling serigraphs mean that each individual serigraph is slightly different from each other serigraph in the edition.  Minor deviations in color registration, paint distribution, and variations yield individual pieces that are truly "one-of-a-kind" or "original."

"THE GLORY YEARS"
ICE BOWL 1967: THE GREENBAY PACKERS
Rick created this serigraph to document one of the greatest birthrights in professional football. The Green Bay Packers under Coach Vince Lombardi had many indelible games that have forever been etched into football history. In fact, they won so many titles that Green Bay became known as "Title Town." But one game that will be remembered for a millennium will be the 1967 game between Green Bay and the Dallas Cowboys played in Green Bay at Lambau Field. The golden color of the field in the print shows how the ground had completely frozen. This game was recorded as the coldest game in Green Bay history, earning it the nickname of the "Ice Bowl." The temperature dropped below -47 degrees and it was so cold that a cameraman had his nose stuck to the back of his camera. Dallas was winning the game with time running out but the Packers, under the leadership of quarterback Bart Starr (#15), drove the ball down the frozen field. With time ticking off, Starr, behind offensive guard Jerry Kramer (#64), took the ball in on a quarterback sneak for the touchdown and the victory.
