"Limited Edition" refers to the fact that there is only a certain amount, or "limited" number of serigraphs printed of a specific piece of artwork. After the edition is printed, all of the original artwork and screens used to make the print are destroyed or effaced. This ensures that no additional prints of this image will be made in the future. This is the opposite of an "Open Edition," where public demand determines the number of pieces included in an edition.

The limited life of the stencil prevents unlimited editions. Additionally, variables in the process of hand-pulling serigraphs mean that each individual serigraph is slightly different from each other serigraph in the edition. Minor deviations in color registration, paint distribution, and variations yield individual pieces that are truly "one-of-a-kind" or "original."

"Cardinals: High Flying Cardinals," created by Sports Artist Rick Rush depicts Ozzie Smith of the St. Louis Cardinals under the direction and genius of baseball patriarch Whitey Herzog. During his tenure the Cardinals flew to new heights of excellence and achievement.

The Cardinals, under Herzog, won three league pennants and won the World Series against the Milwaukee Brewers in 1982. They accomplished all these achievements during the decade of the 80's.

Many outstanding players were instrumental in developing the Cardinal's winning legacy. Among the best of the best was the all-star shortstop of the Cardinals, Ozzie Smith. Ozzie had been vital to the Cardinals’ defense, helping the club to lead the league in number of double plays several times. He is regarded as one of the greatest fielding shortstops of all time, having won eight Gold Gloves. He set a major league record for assists with 621 in 1980, breaking a mark that had stood since 1924. He was also voted to the National League All-Star Game seven times.

Ozzie plays shortstop with such gracefully superlative dynamics that Whitey Herzog said, "If Ozzie doesn't make at least one impossible play per game, people think something is wrong." Nothing is wrong and a lot has been right as Ozzie and others have made St. Louis the "High Flying Cardinals."
